Hydrox
#FoodHistory #SandwichCookies #CookieControversy
If you don't know what Hydrox is, well, they are sandwich cookies filled with cream, similar to Oreos. They were introduced in 1908, predating Oreos (meaning they existed before them).
Some years later, Oreos created a product similar to Hydrox's and eventually gained greater popularity. But the reason was because Oreo's had a kosher certification, unlike Hydrox. (A kosher certification serves as an official endorsement from a rabbinic agency (rabbinic means that it relates to Jewish laws/teachings), confirming that they have thoroughly examined the product's ingredients, the production facility, and the manufacturing process and have accepted it, ensuring that there are no non-kosher substances.)
At one point, Hydrox even filed a lawsuit against Mondelez, the company behind Oreos, due to the fact that they thought Mondelez retailers/workers were restocking shelves to put Hydrox in less desirable spots.
While Hydrox is still available today, it remains relatively unknown and is not widely consumed.
That's all.
(P.S. I used a reference for this.)
